This Thursday Ida B. Wells students crowded the stadium in their Barbie-inspired outfits to celebrate Homecoming. Even the IBW cheer team had a special ensemble for the occasion. As all grades gathered around to watch the ultimate battle between the IBW and Cleveland varsity football teams, the spirit of community was in the air. People were huddled together as far as the eye could see supporting their school in a truly momentous way.
Memories were created for the students who were voted as this year’s Homecoming court as they rode in the back of decorated trucks and were applauded by their peers. Perhaps most memorable of all were the push-up competitions where students were hoisted into the air on a wooden board and challenged to do as many pushups as they could manage in front of the whole school. In the end, the Guardians snatched the win, 36-13. The student body showed their school spirit and is hoping to make it to the top of the leaderboard.
