Halloween is upon us, and with the chaos of school, sports, and work so far, not all of us have the time, energy, or expendable income to commit to a full Halloween look this year, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still have fun. Here are some relatively simple, creepy but cute Halloween makeup ideas for those of us still in the mood to celebrate the spooky season. To create these, I only used makeup I already had on hand, and you can likely do the same.
Clown:
For this example, I used red lipstick for blush, an old eyeshadow palette and a cheap eyeliner to do this look. The best part about this look is that it can be as simple or as complicated as you want depending on the materials you have. You’re also not limited to any color palette: the lipstick and eyeshadow can be any color you have lying around. You can also be more creative with drawing shapes on your face.
Recommended products:
- Something that can be used to make a bright blush. It can be lipstick, eyeshadow, or actual blush.
- Eyeliner to make the black marks under the eyes. This can also be done with an eyeshadow and angled brush.
- Eyeshadow with glitter to decorate the eyelids.
- Some sort of lipstick, blush, or eyeshadow to draw the lip makeup. This is easiest to do with lipstick or liquid blush with a wand because you’ll have more precision.
Time Commitment: 10-20 minutes
Fawn:
This look is super cute, and pairs well with the cozy fall outfits we’re already wearing. To do it, I used brown eyeshadow and a large makeup brush to contour my face, a white eyeshadow stick to draw the spots, brown gel eyeliner for my eyes and nose, a little bit of white glitter to brighten my eyes, and brown lipstick for the lips. If you’re not a fan of neutrals, you can also replace the brown contour with something colorful using an eyeshadow or blush.
Recommended products:
- Eyeshadow, bronzer, contour or blush to color the perimeter of the face.
- Eyeliner or eyeshadow to draw on the nose and decorate the eyes.
- Eyeshadow, bronzer, contour or blush different from the one on the perimeter of the face to add blush.
- Eyeshadow with glitter to decorate the eyelids.
- An eye pencil, liquid eyeshadow and eyeliner can all be used to draw spots. It just has to be more pigmented than the contour color you used so that they will show up.
- Lipstick, liquid blush or eyeshadow that is the same color as the pigment you used to create the deer nose to cover the top lip.
Time Commitment: 7-12 minutes
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice:
A fun way to spice up a basic, dark makeup look is the TikTok and Instagram trend, Beetlejuice lips. This look is traditionally done with a colorful liquid eyeshadow as the base, then you pucker your lips and pack a black eyeshadow on top. But if you’re like me and don’t have those supplies, you can still participate in this trend. I used a white eye pencil and a black liquid eyeliner.
Recommended Products:
- A creamy product is needed for the base; this can be a liquid eyeshadow, lipstick, or eye pencil. For the most drama, pick a drastically different color than your natural lips.
- On top it is ideal to use a powder like an eyeshadow, but it will also work with an eyeliner as long as it’s more liquid than creamy.
Time Commitment: 2-5 minutes
Batwing Eyeliner:
Eyeliner is one of the most versatile tools at your fingertips for fun, spooky makeup. This batwing eyeliner only requires a liquid eyeliner, which can be purchased at the drugstore. This look can be tricky if you don’t have a steady hand, and it can be difficult to make it symmetrical. I would recommend you rest your elbow on the table as you draw.
Recommended products:
- Liquid eyeliner is recommended because this look is significantly more difficult to do with any other kind of eyeliner or eyeshadow because they are less precise.
- Eyeshadow with glitter to decorate the lids.
Time Commitment: 10-12 minutes
