Sabrina Carpenter, Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo. These are some of the most popular names in the world of pop music right now. From their poetic lyrics to iconic concerts, their fame is well-deserved. But there is one more name making its way to the top of the charts right now, and that is Gracie Abrams.
Gracie Abrams is a young, upcoming pop star. She is most known for her popular songs “21” and “I love you, I’m sorry.” Despite being a growing artist, she has a vast discography of music, with two albums and EPs. Abrams latest album, The Secret Of Us, was released in June of this year. She has even opened for various dates of Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” along with having a Grammy-nominated song with Swift titled “Us.”
Abrams was born on Sept. 7, 1999, to well-known film and television producer, Kate McGrath, and famous filmmaker, JJ Abrams. She grew up in Los Angeles, where she spent her early years writing songs and singing. She went on to graduate high school in 2018 and study international relations at Barnard College, but took a year off to focus on her music.
Gracie started her career by sharing clips of her original musical pieces and covers on social media. She released her first single “Mean It” through Interscope Records in Oct. 2019. A month later, she released her second single “Stay.” Then, in June 2020, she released her first EP minor, where “I miss you, I’m sorry” took first place as the most streamed song for the EP.
Abrams continued to make more music, releasing her third single “Brush Fire” in Dec. 2020 and teaming up with Benny Blanco to release a single “Unlearn” in March 2021. Two months after her and Blanco’s single, she released a fourth single “Mess it up,” followed by her second EP in Nov. 2021 titled This Is What It Feels Like.
Abrams joined world-famous pop singer Olivia Rodrigo as an opening act for her “SOUR Tour” in 2021, getting Gracie more recognition for her musical talents.
In April of 2022, Gracie Abrams released her fifth single “Block Me Out.” The next year, she went on to release her first-ever album Good Riddance.
Abrams is continuing to grow, recently releasing the deluxe version of her sophomore album in October. She included an unreleased song to the album’s tracklist that has been a fan-favorite for years now, called “That’s So True.”
A junior at Ida B. Wells, Lexi Sallos, says “She [Gracie Abrams] has made a few great albums already, and I think she will continue being a stable presence in the media.”
Gracie Abrams has released many hits like, “Close To You,” “Risk” and “21,” to name a few. Fans hope she will continue to make music and grow in her career as she makes her mark on the pop world.
