On March 19, 2025, Morgan Wallen appeared as a guest star on Saturday Night Live (SNL). This was his second appearance on the show, this time returning as the episode’s musical guest. Wallen performed his latest hit, “I’m The Problem,” which is currently No. 11 on the “Billboards Top 100.”
Traditionally after an SNL event, cast members and musical guests stand around as the music plays and the credits roll to thank each other and fraternize. After his performance at the end of the show however Wallen quickly left the stage as the other members continued on with the status quo. A short while later, he posted on his instagram story a photo of a private jet with the caption, “Get me to God’s country.” This has left many wondering if it was a mishap by Wallen, or a direct message.
This isn’t his first SNL offense. In Oct. 2020, Morgan Wallen was disinvited from the program after breaking COVID-19 protocols during the pandemic.
Kenan Thompson, SNL’s longest running actor, told Entertainment Weekly on Monday, March 30, that Wallen’s exit was out of the ordinary. “I don’t know what goes through people’s minds when they decide to do stuff like that,” he said. “I don’t know if he understood the assignment or not, or if he was really feeling a certain kind of way.”
The ‘God’s country’ of it all is strange because it’s like, what are you trying to say?” Thompson added. “You trying to say that we are not in God’s country? We’re not all in God’s country? We’re not all under God’s umbrella? That’s not necessarily my favorite.” James Andrew Miller, the co-author of “Live From New York,” said in an interview that Wallen’s exit was a “tad askew” and an “outlier.”
What did Wallen have to say about it? Well, to start, he released “Get me to God’s country” merchandise, with two hats and a tee-shirt.
While the exact reason for Wallen’s abrupt exit remains unclear, his team maintains that there was no animosity toward the show or the cast. They suggest it may have been a misunderstanding or a decision based on his own plans. He also released his collaboration with pop star, Tate Mcray, on April 15, 2025. While the controversy seems to be blowing over — fans’ initial reactions have ranged from angry to proud of the country star, yet he doesn’t seem to be losing popularity over his scandal.
