Coachella is a music festival that happens every year in Indio, California. It always falls in the month of April, lasting for two weeks. It is a hot spot for influencers, celebrities, brand trips and fun. Though many well-known people on social media attend, it is open to everyone who can afford a ticket and withstand the heat.
Coachella first started out as a two-day event from Oct. 9-10, 1999. It initially was not a huge success. Coachella 1999 didn’t have a lot of corporate sponsors, the heat was in the triple digits, and there was a drop in ticket sales due to the violence that struck Woodstock ‘99 a few months before Coachella.
Coachella returned in 2001 as a single-day event, this time during April so that it wouldn’t be as hot. Since then, ticket prices, crowds and lineups have grown. They began making three-day passes instead of one-day passes and added a second weekend in 2012. The festival started to take off in the mid-2010s.
Now, general admission tickets for the first weekend start at $599, general admission + three-day shuttle passes start at $729, VIP tickets start at $1,299 and General Admission 4-pack tickets start at $589. Tickets for Weekend 2 are up to $100 cheaper, with General Admission starting at $549, General admission + 3-Day Shuttle passes at $679, VIP tickets at $1,199 and the General Admission 4-pack starting at $539.
Coachella was initially against sponsorships, but they now have many partners in the food, drink and cosmetic industry. They have partnerships with brands such as American Express, YouTube, Alaska Airlines, Takis, Coca-Cola, Pinterest, Neutrogena, Sol De Janeiro and more.
As for lodging at the Coachella site, they offer onsite camping passes, tent packages, cabana packages, and they even have a Coachella resort. There are also multiple rentals off-site that are a short walk or drive from the site.
This year, Coachella Week One started on April 11 and Week Two started on April 18.
Coachella brought in big headliners this year, such as Lady Gaga, Post Malone, Green Day, and Travis Scott. There were also sets from stars like Charli XCX, Missy Elliot and Megan Thee Stallion.
It is known at Coachella that celebrities and influencers mostly attend Week One for brand trips, and the general public attends Week Two to enjoy the music.
Week One was not what was the attendees expected. It was a hundred degrees Fahrenheit and above, and people were in the middle of the desert with no air conditioning. There were many campsite delays because people chose to camp out for the weekend, so it would be easier to travel to the venue. Attendees report that they had to wait hours just to get into their campsite, when it usually doesn’t take long. Week Two was much more chill in comparison. It brought in the usual crowd of music listeners and appreciators.
Overall, Coachella had a great lineup this year and was very exciting. People are looking forward to seeing who the headliners will be next year and how they may differ from past years.
