As of Sept. 3, 2025, the entirety of season two of “Wednesday” has officially been released. It’s back with the same creepy charm and lovable characters that made its first season a huge sensation. Still set at Nevermore Academy (a fictional school for outcasts and supernatural teens), season two brings a more mysterious and character-driven storyline rather than the plot heavy season one. It includes a lot of the elements that made season one so unique, from its dark style to its equally dark humor. The writers this season were not afraid to take some risks and go all out. It may not be perfect, but it’s still creepy and kooky with plentiful twists.
After the events of season one, Wednesday Addams returns to Nevermore Academy for another unpredictable year. The stakes have been raised vastly since last season. Mysterious deaths start to happen, Addams experiences strange visions and someone might be stalking her. On top of that, Pugsley Addams, Addam’s younger brother, is now attending Nevermore, and the late Principal Weems has been replaced by the enigmatic Mr. Dort. Addams has limited time to figure out what’s going on while also dealing with her familial issues, growing powers and complicated friendships.
This season does a fantastic job at allowing the audience to get to know more of the characters by exploring their backstories and giving them necessary character development. “I think that I liked the change in ‘Wednesday’ the most,” says Ida B. Wells sophomore Lucy Weber. “In season one, she’s so full of herself, and it distracts her from the actually important stuff. But in season two she starts to put others’ needs first more.”
On the flip side, “Wednesday” season two had some amazing returning actors. Notably, Jenna Ortega, who played Wednesday Addams. Ortega acts with the perfect mix of seriousness, dry humor and intelligence that make up the iconic Wednesday Addams. Catherine Zeta-Jones reclaims her role as Morticia Addams, who has a bigger and more complex part this season. More popular returning characters are Enid Sinclair (played by Emma Myers), Bianca Barclay (played by Joy Sunday), and Eugene Ottinger (played by Moosa Mostafa).
“Wednesday” also added 10 new characters to the ever-growing cast list. IBW sophomore Catalina Tapia said, “I think that my favorite new character was probably Agnes. She was super funny and would always lighten the mood.” Agnes DeMille is a character that is quickly climbing the popularity charts, her presence is especially popular on social media.
Unfortunately, one cast member that did not return was fan favorite Percy Hynes White, who played character Xavior Thorpe. Hynes White had been asked to leave the show after sexual allegations surfaced, which have since been denied.
There are a few issues with the new season. There are a lot of different storylines that are introduced. It is understandable that they can’t fit each one into an hour-long episode, but the writers often introduced one thing and then wouldn’t bring it up again for a couple episodes. This made the show confusing and hard to follow at times.
Similar to the last problem, “Wednesday” had a dual release, meaning that the first four and the last four episodes were released two weeks apart. This led to the parts having completely different vibes and for episode four to feel like a season finale rather than an episode in the middle of a season. The beginning of season two felt really action packed and exciting, but it dropped off again in episode five.
“Wednesday” season two is a strong return that gives the audience more of what they loved while also adding new and interesting layers to the story. Though it has its flaws, it’s still a fun and creepy story that’s definitely worth a watch.
