For extroverts, a nightmare, for introverts, a sweet dream. Quarantine is a bit divisive for people and their social lives, but everyone can agree that it is definitely not ideal. I, like many people, have found myself extremely bored being stuck at home. However, the last couple of days, I decided to do something about my boredom and to try to make the most out of this very odd situation. So to help out those who may need it, here are 7 tips for surviving quarantine comfortably.

Tip #1:  Get some exercise. Being cooped up in your house can make getting enough exercise seem difficult, but there are ways around this. Despite what some may think, leaving your house isn’t necessarily unsafe. Going for a walk, run, or bike ride are great and safe ways to exercise, as long as you continue to practice social distancing. And even if there is bad weather, there are plenty of exercise apps and videos. Don’t let there be an excuse!

Tip #2: Eat well. Now more than ever, eating healthy, well-balanced meals is incredibly important. It is not only part of being physically well, but a consistent and healthy diet makes you more alert, more energized, and just makes you feel good, which is something we all need right now.

Tip #3: Make a schedule for yourself. Despite physical class being cancelled, school is going to continue until the end of the semester. The best way to keep up on your studies is by making a schedule that works for you. Quarantine is a marathon, not a sprint–getting into a rhythm will help you finish the race strong. Still, make sure that your schedule includes plenty of time to sit back and relax.

Tip #4: Don’t let yourself get bored. Finding a hobby, or continuing one during isolation, is paramount to battling boredom. Having something that you enjoy doing is the most fun and efficient way of staying engaged in your everyday life. Start painting, plant a garden, try to learn an instrument, do whatever you wanna do–just make sure you’re doing something.

Tip #5: Spend time with those you love. Whether it’s your family or friends, we all need to try to reach out and spend time with the people in our lives that make us happy. In order to feed our desire for social interaction while social distancing, call someone up, text a friend, play a game with them, and of course, be kind and empathetic towards your family.

Tip #6: Get some sun. It is officially spring time; the sun is out, flowers are blooming, and now is the greatest time to be outside. Fresh air and sunshine are a guaranteed recipe for a relaxing day.

Tip #7: Get good, consistent sleep. Though it may feel like school is out and we can do whatever we want and stay up all night, being sleep deprived is going to keep you from enjoying most aspects of your life. Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time, every day. Get those eight hours so that you can spend the rest of your time staying healthy, connecting with friends, keeping up with your hobbies, and doing what is best for you and your family.

An extrovert, an introvert, somewhere in between? Whoever you may be, quarantine doesn’t have to be awful. You have the power to choose what to do with the time that you have. Hopefully you will find a way to make the best out of a crappy situation, and come out better because of it.

Don’t forget to social distance, and be kind to those around you who may be struggling.

Stay safe.
