Last Sunday folks tuned in to watch their favorite celebrities win awards at the Oscars. This year has been a big one for the movie industry with Barbie and Oppenheimer taking the streets and filling your socials with fans raving about both movies. But what really matters at the Oscars is not who wins but the outfits we see on the red carpet! This year there were some show-stopping outfits, as well as a few that made viewers say ‘ew’. Let’s take a deep dive into this year’s fashion.
Margot Robbie has been attending most events this year adorned in outfits that Barbie once wore. Most people were expecting her to appear on the red carpet in pink or something of the sort. Instead, she arrived at the show in a black gown by Versace. Many believe that this is a homage to the end of the movie where America Ferara’s character hopes to achieve the goals and passions she once expressed in her dolls. Thus, Ferrara appeared in a sparkling pink gown which is also a custom Versace. It’s clear the whole Barbie cast yoked together on this decision, something most viewers find heartwarming at the end of this year’s film season.
Ariana Grande’s outfit had mixed reviews from the public. Some people think she looks like she’s wrapped in a pink cloud, and others claim that her dress looks like internal organs.
Florence Pugh is arguably one of the best-dressed actors at this year’s event. Wearing a silver gown by Del Core that looks almost out of this world. She references her character in Dune 2 this year, the princess of her galactical city.
This year Lily Gallstone’s acting career probably reached its highest success in Killers of the Flower Moon. Gladstone appeared in Gucci on the carpet in a fairly simple dress with a uniquely patterned train featuring blue accents. This was a glamorous way to end her year after such a moving performance with Leonardo DiCaprio.
Cillian Murphy, Oppenheimer’s lead actor, appeared in Versace and Omega, a simple yet dashing tuxedo with a broach to pull the whole outfit together. The movie was hard to watch, heartbreaking and raw, but this outfit certainly isn’t hard to look at.
Ryan Gosling also wore black, clearly matching with his co-star Margot Robbie. The silver sparkles bordering the hem of his coat add a nice touch to what otherwise would have been a boring outfit.
Jennifer Lawrence is always show-stopping. In Dior and Swarovski-created diamonds, this outfit is absolutely beautiful. The polka dot pattern is simple yet elegant, and her hair is styled perfectly to complement the outfit. Simple yet glamorous, her team did a great job.
John Krasinski opted for an all-white outfit, a style outside of the Oscars men’s fashion which is typically black. Krasinski did a great job going outside the box, but the outfit was still simple enough not to be too outrageous and round the entire look.
Dwayne Johnson might have had one of the most colorful outfits out of the red-carpet men this year. His blue silk accented with the red button-up underneath was a good choice. Compared to his fellow actors, he might have them beat.
All in all, this year’s stars did a show-stopping job walking the red carpet. It seems like each year there are fewer and less disastrous outfits. Everyone nominated for an award this year should be proud of their work. It’s been a great year for film.
