The video gaming world is constantly changing, and with each new generation of games and updates to games, it brings a new batch of innovation and entertainment.
Gaming has been big for decades at this point and is popular amongst all ages. Games are enjoyable, have almost anything for everyone, and can be addicting at times. They take human imagination and bring it to life; they create what can’t happen in the real world. Humans strive for new and unrealistic things, and that’s what makes games so popular.
This spring has been a big time for games as we’ve had some big releases, updates and news—there’s a lot to uncover.
Monster Hunter Wilds – Game Release
“Monster Hunter Wilds,” released on Feb. 28, was one of the most anticipated releases of spring, being from the popular game series “Monster Hunter.”
The Monster Hunter series has had a very long history, dating all the way back to the early 2000s with their first release, “Monster Hunter.” Following that release came “Monster Hunter G,” “Monster Hunter Freedom” and many other games to continue the franchise, leading them to where they are now in 2025.
The developer behind “Monster Hunter” is Capcom. Capcom is a Japanese video game company that has made and contributed to many other popular games and series of games, such as “Resident Evil,” “Ace Attorney Investigations Collection” and “Street Fighter.”
“Monster Hunter Wilds” is a hack-and-slash adventure game. You go on an adventure following the main storyline of finding and rescuing another expedition group.
“Monster Hunter Wilds” is an enjoyable adventure game for those more hardcore gamers.
Pokémon Go – Big Buy
On March 12, 2025, the hit game “Pokémon Go” and the company behind it, Niantic, were bought out by Scopely at a deal valued at a massive $3.5 billion.
“Pokémon Go” was a big success that was released in 2016, following the popular franchise of the “Pokémon” games. The Pokémon games had been one of Nintendo’s most popular franchises, and previously were not seen in the mobile industry. Originally, any Pokémon game was only available on consoles, specifically ones made by Nintendo, so this was a huge breakaway from that. Both people who were fans of Pokémon and people who were new to it loved the new mobile game.
People were quickly infatuated with “Pokémon Go.” It isn’t any ordinary game; it requires players to go outside and explore. It is a game about catching Pokémon, as most Pokémon games are, but to find these Pokémon, players have to venture outside. “Pokémon Go” worked well as a game for people looking to get out more, and people who already spent a lot of time outside.
Niantic had done something no other company could do: they got their players to actively do something physically productive while playing their game. It was practically a spark of genius for its time and to this day.
Scopely, on the other hand, has a more mixed look from players due to its previous games. For one, it makes enjoyable and creative experiences for gamers to enjoy around the world. However, they’ve been criticized by their player bases for using monetization methods that make their games perceived as pay-to-win by some.
As for what this means for the future of “Pokémon Go,” that is not something anyone knows. Players will simply have to wait around and see.
Minecraft – Spring Update
“Minecraft” is one of the most well-known and well-recognized games in the world. Recently, on March 25, 2025, they launched their “Spring Into Life” update.
“Minecraft” was created and released in 2009 by Mojang, which started as a small team of indie developers founded by a man named Notch. “Minecraft” is an open-world adventure game in a blocky, pixel art aesthetic. Players can create randomly generated worlds to explore, fight off monsters, create architecture and much more.
It was a simple, but successful idea that brought Mojang hundreds of millions of downloads over the years. However, “Minecraft” was bought by Microsoft in 2014. They’ve pushed out tons of content updates, repolished old content and brought innovation to the simplistic game of “Minecraft.” All of this leads up to where the game is now, the “Spring Into Life” update.
“Minecraft’s” newest update brings new warm and cool mob variants, new falling leaves, a new vibrant look and much more. Overall, it’s a small but cozy update that players will enjoy for new additions to their world.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Magia Exedra – Game Release
“Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Magia Exedra,” also known as “Magia Exedra”, is a gacha, turn-based role playing game based on the popular anime, Puella Magi Madoka Magica. “Magia Exedra” is developed by Pokelabo Inc. and f4samurai Inc., and published by Aniplex. It has recently blown up in popularity after its release on March 26, 2025. Some deem it a better version of the game it is much alike to, Honkai Star Rail.
Now, while “Magia Exedra” may not be a semi-open world game, and is using internet property characters as opposed to original characters, the base player versus everyone gameplay is very similar. Players assemble a team of characters to battle enemies in a turn-based system.
Each character has their basic attack, skill and ultimate ability. Throughout the battle, the player has something called skill points, which are used to use skills. The player can have a maximum of five skill points and spends a skill point each time they use a character’s skill. Skill points can be regenerated by using a basic attack. As for the ultimate ability, it can only be used once a character has enough energy. Energy is gained when using a basic attack or skill (and resets when the ultimate ability is used), or when the character takes damage. Unlike skill points, each character’s energy is independent of one another and not shared.
Being a game based around luck, the character obtainment is mostly locked behind a randomness factor. However, the rest of the game relies more so on how much the player spends on the game. “Magia Exedra” is a game that requires a lot of your time, but is also very rewarding to its dedicated players. You can obtain most of the required steps to progress your account through just playing the game, no luck involved.
On top of the already existing time consuming gameplay, “Magia Exedra” hosts a multitude of in-game events in which players can earn tons of in-game rewards rather easily. Appealing to more of their casual playerbase, while benefiting everyone at the same time.
“Magia Exedra” is a good game with great graphics and gameplay, but is more centered towards people who are looking for a more cozy and light vibe, as well as a long grind.
