Our women’s lacrosse team here at Ida B. Wells-Barnett High School (IBW) is growing stronger this season with their 13-5 record. They’re showing their incredible skill, teamwork and determination on the field.
Under the guidance of the incredible coaches, they have a team that has transformed challenges into accomplishments. Their leadership and belief in the player’s potential are driving the force behind every victory.
From early season nervousness to now dominating the field, this team’s growth has been incredible to witness.
Sophomore Maya Soltesz, a varsity lacrosse player shared, “I build trust with my teammates by communicating, supporting each other and being reliable at practice.” Her commitment to these values is inspiring her teammates to do the same.
“Our 13-5 record shows how everyone is hardworking, staying focused and playing together as a team,” says Soltesz. Their teamwork is what makes their success possible.
Their chemistry on the field is good, and it’s clear that every player brings something special to the team.
Freshman Fiona Maguire said, “we build trust by doing team bonding and practicing a lot together. This helps us get to know each other better and trust each other more.”
As the team continues to strengthen its bond their sights are set on even greater achievements. With the playoffs coming up, the IBW women’s lacrosse team is proving that hard work, trust and team bonding are the keys to success.
The results of that chemistry are already visible on the scoreboard. Finishing the regular season with a record of 13-5, the team secured several high-stakes wins.
The highest point of this team’s chemistry came during their matchup against Lincoln High School. IBW showed incredible composure under pressure, securing a narrow score of 13-12 winning the game.
Senior team captain Sophie Lafrenz says, “Trust is a super important essential, to trust each other is letting people know it’s okay to mess up.”
This kind of trust turns every mistake into a lesson rather than an obstacle. It’s about building an environment where your teammates can grow together.
Lafrenz believes that trust is the foundation of the team, but her ultimate goal is connection. “Being a team captain is rewarding to see and help them find their place in the team.” When a captain builds a foundation of trust and a culture of connections, the scoreboard takes care of itself. Their record shows how well they’ve played, but their connections showed who they are. Their amazing season showed that when you lead with trust, greatness follows.
