Nine years ago, a movie was released that would change the course of Disney movies forever. That movie is none other than “Zootopia.” First releasing on March 4, 2016, Zootopia was loved by families from all over the world. What made it unique was its nuanced approach to exploring social issues. Eight years later, Disney finally announced Zootopia 2 was in the works and recently on Nov. 26, 2025, it was released in theatres for everyone to enjoy.
“Zootopia” continues to be a perfect family-friendly choice to this day. It includes positive aspects from its blend of nostalgia, new characters, humor and animation. “Zootopia 2” picks up right where the two main characters, Judy and Nick, left off, exactly one week after they saved the world. In addition, the movie’s concept didn’t change. Sometimes, when a sequel takes an entirely different turn from the first movie, viewers can lose engagement. While Judy and Nick are going on a different mission with the intention to save the world, the second movie dives deeper into the growing relationship between the characters.
Towards the end of the first movie, a growing relationship between Nick and Judy was hinted at. This is heftily expanded upon in the sequel with conflict, confession and playful bickering. It is not officially confirmed that they are dating, but the director purposefully left it up to interpretation. The viewer can decide whether to view it as a platonic or romantic relationship.
It’s worth mentioning that the first movie included only the mammals of Zootopia. The second movie covers the reptiles, and that only leaves one thing left. The end credits of the second movie showed a bird’s feather floating down onto Judy’s open window. This leaves us to believe that not only is a third movie in the works, but it will be about the flying population of the world where Zootopia takes place.
“Zootopia” is not only unique in concept but also with its music. The “Zootopia” soundtrack was a big hit with its main song, “Try Everything.” Similarly, “Zootopia 2” features a new catchy main song called “Zoo.” Both songs are sung by Shakira, also known as the famous pop star Giselle in the movie.
Even after nine years, the release of “Zootopia 2” was definitely worth the wait. There is so much content packed into this movie from its story, relationships, music and great animation. This really is the perfect movie to watch with your loved ones, so be sure to buy some tickets and enjoy the movie.
