When the original “Scream” movie was released in 1996, it became an unexpected success. Fans remember the overwhelming suspense of the opening scene, as well as the shock from the big reveal of who Ghostface was.
Since then, it has been a Halloween and slasher classic. In many households, it’s a tradition to watch it around the spooky season every year, and thousands of Ghostface costumes are still sold every year. It isn’t just a Halloween movie, though; people tend to watch it all year round if they feel in the mood for a little suspense.
Just three years after “Scream VI” was released in 2023, a new installment of the insanely popular “Scream” franchise is set to come out later this month on Feb. 27.
There are many things the movie has in store for this particular installment, such as new characters and other returning actors.
As for the plot, “Scream 7” will be taking place in a new town where Sidney Prescott has established her life after the events of years prior. It appears that her daughter will be the main victim of this particular installment, becoming the next target for Ghostface.
Neve Campbell is also set to come back and reprise her role as the main character and ‘final girl’, Sidney Prescott. Campbell was not in “Scream VI” due to a salary dispute with the studio called Spyglass Media Group, announcing the absence of her role in June of 2022.
Courtney Cox is also coming back to play her role as the fan favorite news reporter, Gale Weathers. The actors Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown are also supposed to continue playing their roles as twins, Chad and Mindy Meeks-Martin.
Two of the biggest surprises so far are that Matthew Lillard and David Arquette are coming back with the same infamous roles. Lillard played Stu Macher in the first “Scream” movie, who was revealed to be the first Ghostface along with his partner, Billy Loomis. Arquette played Dewey Riley, the beloved Woodsboro police deputy, also debuting in the first “Scream”.
Fans are asking questions about the return of these characters. Stu was killed by Sidney Prescott in the first “Scream” movie shortly after his big reveal and Dewey was killed in the fifth “Scream” movie by Ghostface (Amber Freeman). Since they are both dead, what is the franchise planning on doing with their roles? Could there be flashbacks or a plot twist?
There are many new actors joining the movie. Isabel May, known for her role in “Alexa & Katie”, is set to play Tatum Evans, the teenage daughter of Sidney Prescott. It has also been reported that Joel McHale from “Community” is set to play the husband of Prescott, who’s named Mark Evans. Other actors like McKenna Grace, Anna Camp and Mark Consuelos are all set to be a part of the crew, but in unknown roles.
People are anticipating the release of the new installment and are excited to see what the story will bring to the franchise.
