“Love on the Spectrum” is a reality TV show starring people on the spectrum, such as those with autism or Down syndrome. The show follows multiple individuals as they try to find love or build relationships through dates, meet-ups, and events. There are now four seasons that have been watched and enjoyed by millions.
The season starts by bringing back familiar and popular participants, like Conner Tomilson, Tyler White, Madison Marilla, James Jones, and others. They reintroduced them by recapping on how their relationships and lives are going. Madison, who is dating Tyler, moved to be closer to him. It shows Conner and his girlfriend in a rocky period, while James and Shelley are going steady.
The new season also introduces new faces, like Logan from Las Vegas, Dylan from LA, and Emma from Utah. These new personalities are well received by viewers. Dylan is what many would call a film fanatic and a ‘90s music lover. Logan enjoys everything related to trains, especially crashes, and also likes Hannah Montana, a popular TV show starring Mylee Cyrus. Emma loves all things Disney and cartoons.
Over the seven episodes, Logan quickly finds a date named Haley, and they click immediately. They are now a couple and appear very happy together. Emma and Dylan, however, both have some trouble finding dates and are fairly picky.
Conner takes his girlfriend, Georgia, to England to explore castles and medieval history. During this trip, they struggle to connect. Conner feels she doesn’t communicate enough, while she keeps asking questions that he thinks are obvious. She finds some things are cute, which comes across to Connor as insulting. It is later revealed that they broke up.
Tyler proposes to Maddison on their first anniversary at the place where they had their first date. Madison said yes, and their families are very happy. The final scene shows their engagement party with members of the cast.
At this party, Tanner and others attend, and it is revealed that Abbey and David from a previous season broke up. Rumors suggest David took too long to commit or propose. This is sad because they had been dating for a few seasons prior, and no one expected this.
This season received strong reviews, with Rotten Tomatoes giving it a 92% rating, and it recently reached the No. 1 spot on Netflix. That is a big achievement for the show, because it competes with around 1,800 other shows on that platform.
“This season kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time I was watching,” said Daniel Nisley, a ninth grader. It led me on like an emotional roller coaster.”
This season was another great success for the production company, and it made hearts glow along the way. “This show walks a fine line between socially acceptable and not, and walks it perfectly,” said Marrla Wilkinson, English teacher here at IBW.
This season solidified a lot of relationships and tore apart others. It was one of the company’s best revenue-generating seasons ever and a great success for most of the characters advancing their lives.
